Journey

Bade bade deshon ki chote chote baatein.

Enjoy the journey not just the destination, it is easier said than done. Especially, when the bus taking you to your destination is swerving in the western ghats.

I should have seen this coming. The bus painted in almost every perceptible combination of RGB, the LED lights that lit up the interiors, and the Dolby surround speakers advertised loudly, were clear signs. But I grabbed a seat anyway.

It was pouring outside. The monsoon well underway and the window seat did me no favour. That was a bad move on my part. A packed bus, water spraying on to my face from the stubborn window that refused to close, and a ticket to Guruvayur. Neither the journey nor the destination seemed enjoyable.

The swerving got crazier with each turn. Head light from motion sickness, the seething anger, and everything I ate for breakfast reached a boiling point very soon!

I arrived at my destination that day, after having thrown up twice. I don’t remember much of the ordeal that ensued. But I clearly remember the sight of two lungi clad men head bobbing to Lajjavathiye, blaring from the speakers. Enjoying the Dolby surround sound and most importantly, enjoying the journey.
